HIAS and Nationalities Service Center

A workshop providing legal assistance to state residents eligible for naturalization. Local attorneys, paralegals and community volunteers will assist eligible Pennsylvania residents in completing and submitting their citizenship applications at no cost. This program is cosponsored by HIAS and Council Migration Service of Philadelphia, Nationalities Service Center, the Pennsylvania Immigration and Citizenship Coalition and Congress. Participants are asked to register in advance by calling HIAS and Council at 215-832-0900 or NSC at 215-609-1534.

Community Speak Out

CON is joining WOAR (Women Organized Against Rape) for a 1-mile community walk against sexual violence in honor of April being sexual assault awareness month. This 1-mile walk down Walnut Street in West Philadelphia to 40th Street will raise donations to help support Women Organized Against Rape - America's first rape crisis center. The walk ends at The Rotunda where WOAR’s 3rd Annual Take it All Back event is occurring. Members of the community will come together to speak out against sexual violence and celebrate healing. There will be live music, free food, and raffle prizes.

Court Hearing


Date: April 11, 2008

Location: Courtroom 1105 at the Criminal Justice Center (corner of 13th St. & Filbert St)


There is an upcoming decertification hearing for the defendant accused of attempted robbery that eventually lead to the death of Mr. Kwok Wai Ho in 2007. The case may be sent to juvenile court for a lesser sentence or court of common plea (defendant may be tried as a juvenile instead of an adult).

All OCA-GP members are encouraged to attend the court hearing as requested by the family of Mr. Kwok Wai Ho. If attending, need to arrive at least half an hour earlier in order to clear security for the building. Also, do not bring your cell phone to the court since the security guards will confiscate it before gaining entry to the courtroom. Suggestion was made to leave your cell phone at your office or car.

The annual OCA National Convention will be taking place in Washington DC from July 31st through August 3rd. Please come out to celebrate OCA's 35th anniversary and meet thousands of Asian Pacific Americans from all over the country. There are many events happening this year including workshops, Gala awards banquet, career fair, health fair, exhibits and more. Most events are free and open to the public but some require registration.
